How can I visit the Arboretum? 

To visit the Arboretum in Nuneham Courtenay we recommend that you book a time slot in advance to guarantee a place, as there are limited tickets available for each time slot. 

If you are a Friend, Annual Pass holder, Oxford University or Oxford Brookes student and staff memeber, registered disabled or carers you do not need to book a time slot.

How can I visit the Botanic Garden? 

To visit the Botanic Garden in Oxford City Centre we recommend that you book a time slot in advance to guarantee a place, as there are limited tickets available for each time slot. Please be aware that some of our Glasshouses and Herbarium Room will remain closed during the pandemic.

Update 15th July 2020
Some of our Glasshouses have reopened. At present some of the Glasshouses are not accessible for wheelchair users and buggies due to a one-way system in place to ensure social distancing. You can explore the Glasshouses virtually with our virtual visit

I’m a Friend, do I still need to purchase a ticket online?

As a Friend you can still enjoy free entry to the Botanic Garden and Arboretum and do not need to book a time slot. 
You must bring your membership card with you, because our front of house team are unable to check your membership at the door. Without your membership card, you will not be able to enter.

I have an Annual Pass, do I still need to purchase a ticket online? 

If you are an Annual Pass holder you can still enjoy free entry to the Botanic Garden and Arboretum and do not need to book a time slot. You must bring your Annual Pass card (or email confirmation) with you, our front of house team are unable to check your membership at the door. Without your Annual Pass card (or email confirmation), you will not be able to enter.

I am a staff member at the University of Oxford/Oxford Brookes University, how will online ticketing affect me? 

If you are a member of staff at either the University of Oxford or Oxford Brookes University you can still enjoy free entry to the Botanic Garden and Arboretum and do not need to book a time slot. You must bring a valid form of staff ID with you or you will be unable to enter. 

I am a student at the University of Oxford/Oxford Brookes University, how will online ticketing affect me? 

If you are a student at either the University of Oxford or Oxford Brookes University, you can still enjoy free entry to the Botanic Garden and Arboretum and do not need to book a time slot. You must bring a valid form of student ID with you or you will be unable to enter.

I am registered disabled, how will online ticketing affect me? 

You and a carer can still enjoy free entry to the Botanic Garden and Arboretum and do not need to book a time slot. You must bring a valid ID with you or you will be unable to enter.

I am a member of Kew, do I still need to purchase a ticket online? 

If you are a member of Kew you get 2 for 1 entry to the Botanic Garden and Arboretum. We recommend you book one time slot in advance of your visit, to guarantee entry, and you will need to arrive at the same time as your guest. You must bring your Kew membership card with you. Without your membership card, you will not be able to enter.

I booked a time slot, but couldn’t make it. Can I use it on another day? 

Unfortunately not as tickets are date-specific. 

Do I need to wear a face covering? 

Yes, you are required to wear a face covering when inside any of our buildings, including the Glasshouses, the Lodge and Welcome Centres. The requirement to wear face coverings will not apply to those who have a legitimate reason not to including: 

  • Not being able to put on, wear, or remove a face covering because of a physical or mental illness or impairment, or disability

  • If putting on, wearing, or removing a face covering will cause severe distress

  • Where interacting with someone who uses lip reading to communicate, or who has social communication impairments

  • Children aged under 11 years (e.g. when in public spaces such as museums)

Will the shop be open? 

The small selection of products are available to purchase at both the Botanic Garden and Arboretum.  

Will the toilets be open? 

Yes, the toilets, accessible toilets, and changing facilities are now open at the Botanic Garden and the Arboretum. There are additional cleaning and social distancing measures in place to ensure our staff’s and our visitors’ safety.

Can I park at the Botanic Garden? 

No, there is no on-site parking at the Garden. Our nearest car park is St Clement's car park or you can use Park and Ride. There are five Park and Ride car parks located around Oxford’s ring road, each with a bus service taking you straight to Oxford City Centre.

Can I park at the Arboretum? 

Yes, there is on-site parking at the Arboretum, free with your entrance ticket.

Can I bring my own food and drink? 

Yes, you are welcome to bring your own food and drink. You can also purchase teas, coffees and cake from our pop-up cafés at the Botanic Garden and at the Arboretum. 

Is there a bike store available?

There is no bike storage available at the Arboretum and cycling is not permitted on site. There is limited bike storage outside the Garden. 

How will I find my way around? 

Paper maps will not be available, but you can download a map of the Arboretum and a map of the Garden to find your way around during your visit.

School visits

School visits are cancelled until further notice. 

Group bookings 

Group bookings are cancelled until further notice. 

Event hire 

Event hire is currently not possible, but our team are still available to talk, get in touch at events@obg.ox.ac.uk 

Bookings and refunds for special events, lectures and workshops 

Ticket holders will be refunded directly to the account that they paid from in due course. If you have not received this refund within 10 working days, please let us know by emailing admin@obg.ox.ac.uk. You may wish to leave your purchase as a generous donation to the Oxford Botanic Garden and Arboretum.

We will reschedule events where possible in the future, but we cannot confirm timings at the present time. We thank you for your understanding during these difficult and uncertain circumstances.

Please be aware that if you miss your general entry time slot you will not receive a refund. 

Are dogs allowed? 

Dogs are not permitted at the Botanic Garden or the Arboretum, with the exception of registered assistance dogs (these may be required to wear an identification coat or marker on their lead or harness).
