Looking (and smelling!) Good Now – The Katsura Tree

Wed August 23rd, 2017

The Katsura Tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum) in the Walled Garden is always among the first of our trees to display autumn colour, and recently it’s been possible to see some deep gold in the topmost branches. As the leaves turn and begin to fall, they give off a beautiful sweet scent like burnt sugar, or candyfloss. You can find the Katsura Tree just past the fountain on the central path. To smell the delicious aroma, walk slowly around the tree and catch it on a passing breeze.
