Family Friendly Events at the Garden

The Garden runs a series of fun, family friendly activities throughout the year including drop-in holiday activities, family backpacks and insightful trails around the Garden. Join us for craft activities, sowing and growing as well as exploring the beautiful Garden and Glasshouses.  All our family friendly activities are free with entry to the Garden.

These activities form part of the collective offer from the Oxford University Museums and Collections, and the current leaflet listing all of these events can be downloaded here.

Most of our family friendly activities are suitable for primary school age children, however we also run activities specifically for the Under 5s.  Details of all upcoming events can be found below, and details of past events can be found here

We have full toilet facilities, including disabled access and baby change facilities.  We are also able to provide seating for breast-feeding mothers if required.  All family friendly events are both wheelchair and buggy friendly.

Saturday 1st August

Green Picnic Afternoon     1.00 pm - 4.00 pm

Join us for our third picnic afternoon of the summer.  Meet local eco champions and enjoy live music, stories, activities and growing fun!

Drop-in session.  Free with entry to the Garden.

 

Wednesday 23rd September

Make Some Music, Under 5s event     10.30 am - 12.30 pm

Come along and get noisy with our collection of instruments that are all made from plants!  Make a seed shaker to take home, and enjoy stories and more.

Saturday 10th October to Friday 27th November

Sustainability in the Garden Trail     During opening hours (weekends only in November)

Help us celebrate Biology Week, and take the trail around the Garden to discover our sustainable solutions.

Wednesday 28th October

Lovely Leaves     11.00 am - 1.00 pm

We'll be celebrating the Big Draw, using leaves from our collection as inspiration for recycled art actvities.

Saturday 28th November to Sunday 3rd January

Natural Christmas     At weekends during opening hours

Come and see the Botanic Garden’s Christmas tree, decorated with natural decorations.  Take a festive trail and find Christmas plants from around the world.

Saturday 12th December

Recycled Christmas     10.30 am - 12.30 pm

Get in the festive mood and make some Christmas decorations from natural materials.  Hang some on our tree and take some home.

Winter Wonders Trail     At weekends during opening hours

The Garden may appear asleep, but take our trail to find early signs of spring such as blossom, bulbs and birds.

Monday 15th February to Sunday 6th March

Fairtrade Exhibition     During opening hours

Explore the Glasshouses to discover more about the people and plants behind our Fairtrade crops.

Wednesday 17th February

Coconut: the tree of plenty     11.00 am - 1.00 pm

Find out more about the coconut, and have an immersive experience feeling, tasting and creating.
