In stark contrast to the tropical houses our Insectivorous house is a bright, light environment where plants from marshes and swamps from around the World thrive. What all of these plants have in common is their ability to survive in nutrient deficient environments. If you look closely you will discover that they all feature various devices to trap and digest small insects enabling them to supplement the meagre supply of nitrogen that they get from the soil in which they grow. Trapping mechanisms include the well known venus fly trap or Dionaea, the sticky fly-papers of Drosera, the pit fall traps of Sarracenia and the bladder traps of Utricularia.
